What kind of activities are on your holiday bucket list for Christmas Eve? You know, the traditions you partake in every year. They might include hanging up your stockings, tracking Santa, or opening one gift (or two...or three!). Has it been a while since you've added something new to the list? We've compiled some fun and simple things you can do with loved ones on Christmas Eve to add a new tradition to the list and spend some quality family time together.
1) Host a White Elephant Party
If you have a big family, consider hosting a White Elephant Party. Everyone will only have to bring one gift, versus bringing gifts for a lot of family members. It's a lot of fun, with gag gifts and highly-coveted items that will ensure a night of laughs and have everyone stealing gifts left and right.
2) Make Reindeer Food
Cookies for Santa might already be on your list, but what about Rudolph and his friends? Santa's reindeer need food for the journey too! So grab some carrots, oats, and anything else you might think reindeer would enjoy and mix up a bag for them.
3) Set Up a Hot Cocoa Bar
Christmas Eve is the perfect night for relaxing with hot cocoa. Set up a table or countertop with hot cocoa and any add-on you'd need to make it the hot cocoa of your dreams, like marshmallows, candy canes, caramel sauce, sprinkles, and whipped cream.
4) Bring Your Neighbors Christmas Cookies
Spread Christmas cheer to the whole street by surprising your neighbors with festive tins filled with home-baked cookies.
5) Make Homemade Christmas Cards
Put the finishing touch on your gifts with homemade Christmas cards. It's a great family activity, and children will enjoy handing them out to friends and family on Christmas.
6) Don the Ugly Christmas Sweaters
Throw an ugly Christmas sweater party and have everyone vote for the best (aka ugliest) sweater and hand out candy or cookie prizes.
7) Put Together a Care Package
Giving to those less fortunate should always be on your to-do list, especially during the holidays. Get wish lists from your local charities or create a care package for soldiers overseas. You can also make these to be received as a New Year's gift to extend the holiday wishes.
8) Make a Gingerbread House
Grab the gumdrops and royal icing and let the construction begin! Buy a kit or go all out and bake your own gingerbread for this fun family activity.
9) Read a Christmas Classic
Before bed, gather round and read your favorite Christmas classic, like The Night Before Christmas, How The Grinch Stole Christmas!, or A Charlie Brown Christmas.
10) Sing a Christmas Carol
Surprise your neighbors or record a video message of you and your friends and family singing Christmas carols. Share the cheer, either virtually or via doorstep!
